    Fear Not!

    Fear Not!

    by Os Hillman

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. - 2 Timothy 1:7

God calls each of us to engage in spiritual warfare at times. Whenever satan wants to come against one of God's children, he does so by trying to intimidate through fear.

Goliath's formidable size and arrogant boasting intimidated Saul and Israel's army. And because God's anointing had fallen from Saul, he was unable to respond with courage to Goliath's charge. Fear paralyzes and torments. That is why Saul could not respond.

The anointing had fallen on David, who was just a young boy, but mighty in spirit. David did not cower at the size or shouts of the giant Goliath. He saw Goliath through the eyes of God, who saw him as a mere speck. David had righteous indignation for an affront to the armies of the living God.

David did not weigh the risk of failure because his faith was resting totally in God. That is another important factor in overcoming fear-complete trust in God.

When the Lord began training me to confront fear, the training grounds were a groundless lawsuit, intimidations, and calamity that confronted my very existence. Learning that these were merely tactics of the enemy, designed to instill fear, allowed me to stand firm in God's power to overcome.

Do not fear sudden calamity if you are walking uprightly before God. It may be setting the stage for a great victory that will bring praise and honor to your heavenly Father. These battles are training grounds for greater victories to come.

The only sign the Pharisees and Sadducees were to receive was that of Jonah (aka Jesus in the tomb for 3 days and then rising again)

    Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day. I thank You for the fresh wind into my sails. I thank You for the visions yesterday to press onward and upward. I thank You for Your love (mercy, grace, wisdom, provision). You are so awesome. You are so deserving of worship and praise. Lord, may today people draw nearer to You. May today people step out in faith believing that it is important to fellowship with other believers. May today we walk in the hope, the trust, the faith, the courage that comes from a true and living relationship with You. And we will give You all the praise, all the honor, all the glory, in Jesus' name. Amen.

    Matthew 16

Who are you going to listen to? Keep a tight control on what is said. Perseverance after God will grant great rewards.

    Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for Your incredible love and favor. I look to You today for wisdom and guidance. Help me to be patient and to be a good example for those around me.  I know that yesterday I didn't respond or react in a proper way as I let my emotions drive my words instead of  giving them all up to You. Help me today to receive the words that You have spoken over me during my morning devotional time. Help me to take this wisdom and put it to good use. Help me to be a light that shines in a dark world. Help me to be salt that seasons this world. Lord, I thank You and praise You and will glorify You in all the earth, in Jesus' name. Amen.

    Today's Nuggets:

    Matthew 15:

    v6

So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it no effect].

    v17-18

...whatever goes into the mouth passes into the abdomen and so passes on into the place where discharges are deposited? But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what makes a man unclean and defiles [him].

    Themes:

Who are you going to listen to? Keep a tight control on what is said. Perseverance after God will grant great rewards.

There will be times when you hear that things need to be done this way, because they have always been done that way. There will be times when you will see something wrong, but when you ask about it, people will point to a different problem and try to discredit the work and help you are trying to provide. There will be times when people will be doing things not because it is the right thing, not because it is the best thing for them, but because of traditions or because of their heritage or because that is the way it has always been done. But the Bible says, that God's ways aren't our ways, that God's ways are higher than our ways, and that we are to step up and become the righteous people of God by becoming more like Jesus. We need to daily put on our Armor - the Full Armor of God - and remember that most of it will keep us and protect us from the attacks of each day - the helmet will protect our mind, the breastplate will protect our heart, the shoes will protect our feet and mobility and ability to react, the belt to hold our tools which are true, the shield to protect us from the things that are being thrown at us... God's Word is our sword, it is our offensive weapon. We will not be crushed, but there will be pressure. We will be persecuted, but not abandoned. Think about it, when God is on our side, who can really come against us. Remember that He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. Let's keep our eyes focused on the true prize and the truth of God. Let's not allow for things or situations in our day take away from all that God has provided for us and given us wisdom about.

Let our mouth speak hope and truth. Let our mouths speak love and respect. Let our mouths speak honor and grace.

When the world says you can't what will you do?

When the world says it is impossible what will you do?

When the world says it is too hard what will you do?

When the world says there is no way what will you do?

My God is big enough to satisfy all my needs. My God is bigger than any problem that can come my way. I believe in faith that if God put in here to do it, He will not leave me hanging. I believe in faith that if God said do, it will be done. I believe in faith that for God nothing is impossible. I believe that nothing is too hard for my God. I believe that there may not be a way for humans to do it, but I know God and He can.

Let's put our trust in and around God and walk our lives like we believe it. Let's pursue after God with all our hearts, minds, and souls.

Eph. 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Eph. 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Eph. 6:13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Eph. 6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

Eph. 6:15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

Eph. 6:16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Eph. 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Eph. 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Have You ever considered how Jesus and Jonah were similar?

    Heavenly Father,

I thank You for allowing me to serve others you. I thank You for cleansing and purifying me. I thank You for being my Lord and savior and for having changed my life. Help me to use the gifts and skills You have given me with wisdom and faith so as to be able to bring praise and glory to the kingdom of God and help lead others there through Your light shinning in and through my life. And Lord, I will give You the praise and the glory, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Make time to rest, wait, and be refreshed by God

    Heavenly Father,
This world's view is so different from Your view. This world's ways are so different that Your ways. Lord, help us today to realize that stopping to think, to be critical thinkers is a good thing. Help us to see that we aren't to simply put on bandages over problems, but to seek the truth or root of the problem and address it. Lord, help us to realize how the human body is built. Help us to see the purposes You have for each of our lives. Selah.

Lord, my Hope, my Trust, my Strength, my Courage, my Life is all in your hands. Each breath I breath comes from You. Each gift I give comes from You. Each offering I give to You, You first gave to me. When I worship, each breath I use has come from You.

Thank You Lord for this day and for all that is in. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Praise, Honor, Worship, and Praise be to You my Lord, in Jesus' name. Amen.

We've been called to be covenant keepers...

    Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for what plans You have in store. Lord, I look to You as my ultimate scheduler setting up new appointments and keeping others. I know that Your will is my top priority and I ask that You guide my every step today and that I would be obedient to follow. Help me Lord today to consider covenants. Help me Lord today to see if I have made covenant with anyone and have not or am not fulfilling it/them. Help me Lord to remember and to step up in order to complete, accomplish, and move forward in these commitments.

Lord, You have always been the strong partner in our covenant and all those You have participated in throughout history. Help us to be the one who shines for You and steps up to be the strong partner in all the covenants we step up to in our personal and our business lives.

Lord, I thank You and trust You and worship You and praise You in Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Thes 5:24 - The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it

Am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God?

    My Prayer:

    Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this new day and for the incredible plans You have for me. I look to You in Worship & Praise for all that You have done, for all that You are planning to do, and for the incredible life I am living through Your grace, Your mercy, Your provision, Your presence, Your direction, Your ultimate plan. I lift up all that I am and all that I have to You today and as for Your protection as we come and as we go. I ask for Your wisdom as I need to make decisions and need to press into all that needs to be done. Help Your priority be my priority. Let Your will be my will. Let every word that comes from my mouth be glorifying to You, for it is not I who speaks but Your Spirit that will speak through me. Lord, thank You for the time I have had to work and the time I have had to rest. Give me Your strength the walk in and through today's plans for my life. I give You all the praise and all the glory, in Jesus' name. Amen.

My Reading from the Word of God:

    Galatians 1

1PAUL, AN apostle--[special messenger appointed and commissioned and sent out] not from [any body of] men nor by or through [a]any man, but by and through Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and God the Father, Who raised Him from among the dead--

2And all the brethren who are with me, to the churches of Galatia:

3Grace and spiritual blessing be to you and [soul] peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah),

4Who gave (yielded) Himself up [[b]to atone] for our sins [and [c]to save and sanctify us], in order to rescue and deliver us from this present wicked age and world order, in accordance with the will and purpose and plan of our God and Father--

5To Him [be ascribed all] the glory through all the ages of the ages and the eternities of the eternities! Amen (so be it).

6I am surprised and astonished that you are so quickly [d]turning renegade and deserting Him Who invited and called you [e]by the grace (unmerited favor) of Christ (the Messiah) [and that you are transferring your allegiance] to a different [even an opposition] gospel.

7Not that there is [or could be] any other [genuine Gospel], but there are [obviously] some who are troubling and disturbing and bewildering you [[f]with a different kind of teaching which they offer as a gospel] and want to pervert and distort the Gospel of Christ (the Messiah) [into something which it absolutely is not].

8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to and different from that which we preached to you, let him be accursed (anathema, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment)!

9As we said before, so I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel different from or contrary to that which you received [from us], let him be accursed (anathema, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment)!

10Now am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah).

11For I want you to know, brethren, that the Gospel which was proclaimed and made known by me is not man's gospel [a human invention, according to or patterned after any human standard].

12For indeed I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but [it came to me] through a [direct] revelation [given] by Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

13You have heard of my earlier career and former manner of life in the Jewish religion (Judaism), how I persecuted and abused the church of God furiously and extensively, and [with fanatical zeal did my best] to make havoc of it and destroy it.

14And [you have heard how] I outstripped many of the men of my own generation among the people of my race in [my advancement in study and observance of the laws of] Judaism, so extremely enthusiastic and zealous I was for the traditions of my ancestors.

15But when He, Who had chosen and set me apart [even] before I was born and had called me by His grace (His undeserved favor and blessing), saw fit and was pleased(A)

16To reveal (unveil, disclose) His Son within me so that I might proclaim Him among the Gentiles (the non-Jewish world) as the glad tidings (Gospel), immediately I did not confer with flesh and blood [did not consult or counsel with any frail human being or communicate with anyone].

17Nor did I [even] go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles (special messengers of Christ) before I was, but I went away and retired into Arabia, and afterward I came back again to Damascus.

18Then three years later, I did go up to Jerusalem to become [personally] acquainted with Cephas (Peter), and remained with him for fifteen days.

19But I did not see any of the other apostles (the special messengers of Christ) except James the brother of our Lord.

20Now [note carefully what I am telling you, for it is the truth], I write this as if I were standing before the bar of God; I do not lie.

21Then I went into the districts (countries, regions) of Syria and Cilicia.

22And so far I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Christ in Judea (the country surrounding Jerusalem).

23They were only hearing it said, He who used to persecute us is now proclaiming the very faith he once reviled and which he set out to ruin and tried with all his might to destroy.

24And they glorified God [as the Author and Source of what had taken place] in me.

Too many GOOD Words for me to highlight or elevate just one.

    Today's Word from James

    James 1

1JAMES, A servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad [among the Gentiles in the dispersion]: Greetings ([a]rejoice)!

2Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.

3Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

4But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.

5If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of [b]the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.

6Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.

7For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,

8[For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].

9Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his elevation [as a Christian, called to the true riches and to be an heir of God],

10And the rich [person ought to glory] in being humbled [by being shown his human frailty], because like the flower of the grass he will pass away.

11For the sun comes up with a scorching heat and parches the grass; its flower falls off and its beauty fades away. Even so will the rich man wither and die in the midst of his pursuits.(A)

12Blessed (happy, [c]to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive [the victor's] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

13Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil and He Himself tempts no one.

14But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).

15Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.

16Do not be misled, my beloved brethren.

17Every good gift and every perfect ([d]free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].

18And it was of His own [free] will that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself].

19Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry.

20For man's anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires].

21So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls.

22But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].

    23For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror;

24For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.

25But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).

26If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person's religious service is worthless (futile, barren).

27External [e]religious worship [[f]religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.

    The Goal of Life

    The Goal of Life

    by Os Hillman

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11

For many people in the world, real meaning in life is the next vacation, career success, or stepping up the income ladder. It is a life based on pleasurable experiences. Many a human being has toiled their whole life to gain a pleasurable lifestyle only to find a life that is empty and meaningless. You only have to watch television for one evening to discover that advertisers want us to believe this is the goal of life. The work-to-play theme is consistent with most advertising messages.

Solomon was a man who had nothing withheld from his appetite. He was a great builder, a great businessman, and a great lover of women. Every imaginable pleasure was his. Nevertheless, he was to discover that these things alone could not satisfy the human soul.

A recent trip to a beautiful island left me grateful that God had allowed me to understand the futile trap of the work-to-play lifestyle. It is great to experience times of refreshing and visit beautiful places as long as we don't fall into the trap of thinking that these experiences equal a meaningful life. God's beautiful creation can so easily become a prison of emptiness if Jesus is not in the center of it. The apostle Paul said there is only one way to find meaning and purpose in life:

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe... (Ephesians 1:17-19).

Knowing Christ brings the only real meaning and purpose to the human soul. Spend time today getting to know the Lord in a more intimate way. Then you will discover real meaning and purpose in life.

...His ways are not our ways...

    My Prayer:

    Heavenly Father,
I love You and thank You for the position You have moved me into. I thank You for the encouragement and direction You give me through Your Word, Your Spirit, and the words of others. I thank You for the friends You have given my family. I thank You for the provision You have given me to be able to provide not only for my family but for others and the building of a new house for You where ministry and hope can be spread around the community. I give this day to You and ask that You help me to accomplish all that You desire. Help us to make sure that we aren't doing things out of self, but that we are doing things out of a servant's heart. Be honored, Be glorified, Be praised through all I say and do, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

    Changing Our Paradigm of Experience

    by Os Hillman

So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight-why the bush does not burn up." - Exodus 3:3

Have you ever heard someone say, "God doesn't work that way? He would never do that." Well, there are times when God chooses to confound the foolish in order to change our paradigm of experience. Moses had never seen a bush that burned but did not burn up. It got his attention and it drew him to God.

When Jesus appeared on the water in the middle of the night during a storm, the disciples exclaimed, "It's a ghost!" They had never seen a man walk on water. This led to a great miracle--Peter walked on the water, too. When Jesus asked Peter to catch a fish and get the coin from its mouth to pay their taxes, you can imagine what Peter must have thought about those instructions. When Moses got to the Red Sea, he ran out of options. God had an unexpected solution to the Israelites' problem--He parted the Red Sea to demonstrate His power and allow the people of Israel to cross over to flee the Egyptian army.

Each of these new paradigms was a stepping-stone of an encounter with God so that the individual would experience God in a new way. God used these times to enforce the principle that His ways are not our ways. Whenever we try to predict that God will act in a certain way, He changes the paradigm to keep us from becoming our own little gods.

Have you ever been guilty of judging someone for an experience they've had that you've never had? Did you dismiss it as extreme or something not of God? God is in the business of changing our paradigm from no personal experiences to God-experiences. However, if you operate on a level of rigid logic, you may never have the privilege of having the God-experiences. Keep your heart free to experience new paradigms with God today.

    When Heaven Invades Earth

    God's Power Released Through You
The same supernatural power used by Jesus, the prophets, apostles, and New Testament disciples to perform signs and wonders is available to every Christian through the presence of Holy Spirit upon us. By laying a carefully-constructed Biblical foundation for walking in the supernatural power of God and sharing many miraculous stories from his own life and others, Bill Johnson provides in this book the equipping needed to experience signs and wonders today.
"I have added this book to my all-time 'Top 10' reading list!"
